Tori Bahr, MD, FAAP, received the 2024 COPIC/MMAF Humanitarian Award. This award is presented each year to honor a Minnesota physician for their volunteer medical services and contributions to help address the healthcare needs of underserved populations in the state.
Dr. Bahr is an Internal Medicine and Pediatric MedPeds [RC1] Physician and the Medical Director of Pediatrics at Gillette Children’s. A committed advocate for pediatric-to-adult health care transition, she has hosted and presented at numerous conferences and learning days focused on transition for children and youth with special health needs. She also co-leads the Children and Youth with Special Health Needs Health Care Transition Learning Collaborative, a groundbreaking project and partnership between Gillette and the National Alliance to Advance Adolescent Health/Got Transition.
Dr. Patience White, Co-Director of Got Transition, says “Dr. Bahr has demonstrated her leadership and commitment to ensuring that Minnesota youth with chronic and disabling conditions have access to a planned and coordinated approach beginning in pediatric care and continuing into adult care.”
In addition, Dr. Bahr shares her knowledge by hosting multiple residents from the University of Minnesota’s MedPeds program as part of a MedPeds Transition elective. She organized the Inpatient Twin Cities Transition QI Collaborative, a group of MedPeds hospitalists and outpatient providers across the metro area to discuss how hospital care may be improved for patients with complex health care needs.
Dr. Bahr also sits on the boards of the Down Syndrome Association of MN and the HealthPartners Institute Pregnancy and Child Health Research Center as a Steering Committee Member, where she uses her expertise and commitment to community wellbeing to inspire change.
The COPIC/MMA Foundation Humanitarian Award is a partnership between the MMA Foundation and COPIC, the MMA’s preferred medical liability insurance provider. The award grants $10,000 to any health-related 501(c)(3) organization of Dr. Bahr’s choosing.
Dr. Bahr will be recognized for this award at the MMA Annual Conference on September 27, 2024.
