Gillette Children’s nurse practitioner Heidi Davis, APRN, CPNP, has been named the Minnesota Pediatric Nurse Practitioner of the Year by the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP). This recognition is a testament to her dedication and contributions to the healthcare of children and families.
Davis’ journey in healthcare delivery is marked by her significant involvement with the Midwest Genetics Network's (MGN) geneTIC Workgroup. For several years, she has been at the forefront of improving trauma-informed care for children with genetic conditions.
Understanding the profound impact trauma can have on young patients and their families, Davis has worked to enhance the support provided in medical genetics clinics. Her commitment is evident in her active participation and presentations at MGN conferences, including a webinar on trauma-informed care in Feb. 2023. Through these efforts, she has helped bridge gaps in access to genetic services, ensuring that underserved populations receive the care and attention they deserve.
"Heidi is an exceptional nurse practitioner who always goes above and beyond in all the work she does,” said Julie Mills, APRN, CNP, a fellow nurse practitioner at Gillette Children's. “Whether she is advocating and caring for her patients and families in complex care or helping to make improvements in healthcare delivery either at Gillette or in the community, she excels as a pediatric nurse practitioner."
In addition to her contributions to healthcare delivery, Davis is a passionate educator. She serves as a preceptor to residents and nurse practitioner students, imparting knowledge and experience in managing complex healthcare needs. Her role as a mentor is helping shape the next generation of healthcare professionals who will continue to advance pediatric care.
Davis presented on the complex care of children and young adults with special healthcare needs at the Second Annual Gillette Children's APP Conference, sharing her expertise with a broader audience and promoting best practices in pediatric healthcare.
“Heidi exemplifies the spirit of dedication and compassion. Her work with MGN and her role as an educator highlight her profound impact on the pediatric healthcare landscape,” said Tori Bahr, MD, Gillette Children’s medical director of pediatrics. “She works hard to ensure that children with complex needs receive the highest standard of care. This prestigious award from NAPNAP recognizes her exceptional contributions and serves as a testament to her enduring commitment to Gillette children and families.”
