A foot orthosis (FO) and UCBL foot orthosis are used to support, distribute pressure and help maintain proper alignment of the foot, especially the heel and arch.

Shoes

It is very important that you have well-fitting shoes when wearing an FO or UCBL. If your shoes do not fit well, the orthoses will not be able to function correctly and may not be comfortable.

Make sure your foot fits comfortably inside the shoe with the orthosis in. In some cases, a slightly larger shoe might be needed.  Athletic shoes that are able to be laced or fastened snugly are a good choice. FOs and UCBLs usually replace the shoe insoles and are left in the shoes at all times.
