Help us learn about energy costs for children who have cerebral palsy (CP). Energy costs in children with CP is high - more than 2x what is typical, on average. We do not yet know what causes this energy output to be high, making it difficult to tailor treatments to lower energy costs.

This study is the first of its kids to use a treadmill with bodyweight support and body stabilization to look at important gait-related factors that cause high energy costs. By better understanding the underlying causes, we hope to be able to develop therapies, devices, and treatments that can lower energy costs and improve the quality of life for children with CP.

PLEASE NOTE: This study closes in June 2025.

8-17 year-olds who:

  • Have a cerebral palsy diagnosis.
  • Have a bilateral cerebral palsy diagnosis.
  • Have a parent or guardian who is able to speak and read in English.

The study involves a one-time visit to Gillette Children's Gait Lab, lasting 2-2.5 hours.

Study participants will walk on a treadmill for 20-40 minutes total at a slow walking speed, with breaks every five minutes as needed.

Yes, participants will be compensated $50 for completing this study.
