Accreditations, Certifications and Verifications

As a leader in medical treatment, technology, education and research for people who have disabilities and complex conditions, Gillette Children's maintains accreditation, certifications and verifications through a number of organizations.

We are committed to providing the highest standards of care for our patients.

AASM Standards for Accreditation have been the gold standard by which the medical community and the public evaluate sleep medicine facilities. Achieving AASM accreditation demonstrates a sleep medicine provider’s commitment to high quality, patient-centered care through adherence to these standards. Gillette offers one of the nation’s only sleep medicine programs designed specifically for children and teens who have disabilities and complex conditions.

The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics is the comprehensive credentialing organization whose mission is to establish and advocate for the highest patient care and organizational standards in the provision of safe and effective orthotic, prosthetic and pedorthic services.

Since our inception in 1948, ABC has become the quality standard in OP&P credentialing.

ABPTRFE recognizes residency and fellowship programs for physical therapists on the basis of the program’s vision and goals, curriculum, delivery of education, program commitment, and focus on improvement.

ABRET accreditation is a confirmation that the EEG Department is meeting technical standards, establishes minimum competency and demonstrates quality output. Accreditation focuses on the technical component and reinforces knowledge of the recordings and lab management issues. Lab accreditation encourages continuing education, bolsters confidence, fosters professionalism and enhances quality and safety for patient care.

ACPA supports patients with cleft and other craniofacial conditions. ACPA recognition is one way to show  that Gillette Children's has the "commitment and capacity to provide care in a coordinated and consistent manner with the proper sequencing of evaluations and treatments with the framework of the patient’s overall developmental, medical and psychological needs."

Ensuring the most advanced surgical care in pediatrics. The Children's Surgery Verification (CSV) Quality Improvement Program, commonly referred to as the CSV Program, specifically addresses the surgical care of infants and children. The intent of the CSV program is to match children's specific providers and resources to the individual needs of every child needing surgical care. 

Gillette Children's was the first in the nation to recieve this designation. 

The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT) has been dedicated to improving the quality of care for injured patients for more than 80 years. Since 2014, the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) has continued this focus on improving quality care by providing validated, risk-adjusted benchmarking for Pediatric trauma centers. The risk-adjusted data, combined with training and collaboration with other TQIP participants, allows TQIP participants to track outcomes and improve patient care

CARF® International is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services. Through accreditation, CARF assists service providers in demonstrating value by the quality of their services and meeting internationally-recognized organizational and program standards.

Commission for Motional Laboratory Accreditation (CMLA) accreditation demonstrates that your laboratory meets a set of standard criteria in the areas of administration (personnel, staffing, policies and procedures), equipment (validity, accuracy, and precision, quality assurance programs), and data management and reporting (control data set, clinical data set, policies and procedures) deemed important to the clinical care of persons with disorders of human motion. The criteria are felt to be characteristic features of successful, leading laboratories.

COLA  Accreditation signifies that the laboratory meets federal CLIA and state regulatory requirements, and works with organizations to ensure a culture of quality.

IRSF has worked for nearly 40 years to research treatments and potential cures for Rett Syndrome.  IRSF designated 14 Rett Syndrome Centers of Excellence, one of which is Gillette Children's  Phalen Clinic. This designation requires that the Phalen Clinic has a physician director who has expertise in Rett syndrome care, health services that meet the specific needs for patients with Rett, has involvement with clinical trials, and works to increase understanding of Rett syndrome through contributions to a clinical registry.

MN Department of Health (MDH) certification recognizes clinics that coordinate care among the care team, specialists, and community partners to ensure patient-centered whole person care, and improve total health and well-being.

NCQA recognition highlights organizational use of Patient-Centered, Coordinated Care Management processes within Gillette Children’s, specifically Orthopedics, at St. Paul, Burnsville, and Maple Grove;  Neuosurgery and Physical Medicine & Rehab departments at the St. Paul clinic. This recognition is representative of efforts within referrals, care management and performance improvement.

NAEC has designated Gillette Children's Hospital as a Level 3 Epilepsy Center. Level 3 means that, compared to level 1 & 2, Gillette Children's Hospital provides neurodiagnostic evaluations and neurophysical services.
